Night and Day was introduced in 1995, born of a desire to distinguish between day and night on the watch’s dial. The hours before noon are distinguished from those after by a changeover from Roman to Arabic numerals. This watch is thus a symbolic encounter between the East and West, besides paying tribute to the East which gave birth to the science of mathematics.
Time has no limits, as the Night and Day Model brilliantly demonstrates, with the encounter between night and day and between East and West. Besides the alternation between Roman and Arabic numerals, this alliance of two cultures and two worlds, the numerals are displayed on a background of changing colors, black giving way to white as night gives way to day, like the alternating play of a game of chess under the governance of time.
THE DIAL

THE BACK
On the reverse of the watch the owner can avail of a sapphire crystal which will allow him to view the automatic movement in all its complexity.
COMPLICATIONS
This model’s main complication concerns the manner of displaying the numerals. The changeover from Roman to Arabic numerals is achieved by means of a disc revolving underneath the dial, so that traditional hour indicators are replaced by figures viewed through apertures in the dial. Other complications featured by N&D are power reserve and date indicators.

NIGHT & DAY AND THE NEED FOR A 24-HOUR CLOCK
In the 19th century time was customarily given in a 12-hour format, but with the development of railroads and increasing travel by rail, there was a growing risk of uncertainty in published timetables.
In 1884 the Washington Conference recommended the adoption of a 24-hour clock to eliminate the possibility of confusion. The Night & Day model pays tribute to this historical era, while sacrificing nothing in the way of style and complexity.
